Flooring & Roofing
Flooring and roofing are two critical components of any building, each serving essential functions related to protection, aesthetics, and structural integrity.
Flooring refers to the finished surface of a floor, designed for walking on and enhancing the interior appearance of a space. Beyond aesthetics, flooring provides stability, support for weight (people, furniture, systems), sound insulation, and resistance to moisture and heat transfer. Materials vary widely, from traditional options like hardwood, tile (ceramic, porcelain, stone), and carpet to modern solutions such as laminate, vinyl (including LVT and sheet vinyl), engineered wood, concrete, and cork. The choice of flooring depends on factors like desired look, durability, maintenance requirements, budget, and the specific function of the room (e.g., water resistance for bathrooms).
Roofing, on the other hand, forms the uppermost protective layer of a building. Its primary role is to shield the interior from weather elements like rain, snow, wind, and sun, while also contributing to insulation and overall structural stability. Roofing systems consist of a supporting structure (rafters or trusses), decking, underlayment, and the visible roof covering. Common roofing materials include asphalt shingles (the most popular for residential use), metal (steel, aluminium, copper, zinc), clay and concrete tiles, wood shakes and shingles, and various synthetic and single-ply membranes (like EPDM, PVC, TPO) often used for low-slope or flat roofs. Roof design also incorporates elements for drainage (gutters, downspouts) and ventilation, ensuring longevity and performance.
